Please take a seat and await your name...

In much the way that many a place has been described as having an atmosphere of waiting for something to happen, that my friends is what Stranraer is for; waiting. It was whilst walking back from my Indian meal that I looked on the drizzled streets and thought this is a town of people waiting to leave. Restaurants which rarely experience the same customers. Bars that will never be anyone’s local.
Most people here are either actively killing time or in the business of providing places for these chronographical murders to occur.
I imagine there are similar cities built on the banks of the River Styx, at the Pearly Gates, and to the entrance of Hades. With hotels with complementary pyjamas for the men, hats for the ladies.
At least the Chicken Bhoona was good.

Weekend News etc

Firstly, Birthday stuff
I got some fabulous loot. This included: a super wine temperature controller that looks like a pod from a spaceship, a controversial world domination game, some bamboo socks, and an excellent Nokia E65 phone which I love to bits.
Badger took me to The Spice Garden in Glasgow which has fantastic food and super service. It has changed hands but they are still really nice and have made a few changes to the menu which I think make it even better. Hope the previous manager is having fun whatever he is doing as I always have a soft spot for the atmosphere and also for their lamb bhoona.

Today...
I’m in Stranraer.
So, what of here then? Well, it has a weird atmosphere. I keep thinking of slightly harsh by lines they could use for their tourist board.

“Things not workout as you planned? Come to Stranraer”

"You didn't work hard enough; You know it's what you deserve"

"Lower your expectations!! Come to Stranraer"

This is all a little on the unfair side. As all the people seem nice, My B&B is very clean and comfortable, owners are lovely, I have a good mobile signal and my internet dongle works a treat.

But somehow, I have only been here hours and I have eaten fish and chips, drank instant coffee, and now have a bottle of screw-top French wine.

Stranraer, Relax, it’s only temporary.
We have a port and two good quality roads with which to escape.

what's today?

Well, it’s my birthday again which still hasn’t been ratified by government to make it a national holiday. This problem has been on going for a number of years, but it still makes me a little grumpy. So far I have had a drive to Glenrothes, a new grey hair, and a Visa bill. I would give you all a tip out there, when your mother asks you what you want for your birthday, remember to suggest something, even a book token. Saying that a card is fine and you really don’t need anything really will just make you more grumpy when that is precisely what you get. I’d like the Gnarls Barkley CD, but how could anyone guess that? With old age comes an affection of Motownesque (?) music. No one warned me of that.
I have pictures to post and I will when I get them off my phone/camera.
Oh yeah, take delivery of a cat tomorrow. Getting it from the Cat and Dog rescue people. So it’ll probably turn out to be a psycho. With current reference point, how would I know?
Boa fim de semana para todos :o)
